The Education Department today transferred contractual vocational master (computer science) Gurwinder Rattan from Sangrur to Mansa district on administrative grounds. Rattan had challenged the appointment of former CM Beant Singh’s grandson Guriqbal Singh as a DSP on the basis of graduation degree obtained through distance education.

However, Rattan alleged he was transferred to pressurise him to withdraw the petition filed against Guriqbal.

Rattan joined in 2011 as a contractual teacher, but had alleged that around 2,000 teachers with degrees from other states had been regularised by the government to date and only a few were left for reasons best known to the officials concerned.

“I am not against the job given to Guriqbal, but want regularisation of my services as the government cannot apply two rules in the same state. The authorities are not regularising my services on the plea that I have obtained my degree from some other state’s university, but how could they give job to some other person who also had obtained degree from some other state. I am being pressured to withdraw the petition,” he said.

Earlier, September 20 was the date of hearing of his case in the High Court, but now the case would come up for hearing on April 19, 2019.

“There is no complaint against me during the last one year and my ACR is fine. I have been producing good results. There is no valid reason. I will not withdraw my petition,” Rattan added.

However, Prashant Goyal, Director General of School Education, denied the allegations and said Rattan was transferred on the basis of a complaint. “I do not remember the exact details, but his transfer has been done on the basis of a departmental inquiry,” he said.
