Sarpanch aspirant promises cash, suit, double-bed blanket to women voters
In a bid to secure votes in Warring village, a sarpanch candidate, Harjit Singh, also known as Manga, has made enticing promises to women voters. In a viral video, Manga pledged to give Rs 1,100, a suit and a double-bed blanket to every woman in the village on the polling day. Additionally, he promised school uniforms and a van for students commuting to Jhabelwali village.
Manga also vowed to provide five-marla plots from panchayati land to families displaced by the upcoming Malwa canal project. He emphasised his focus on women, contrasting with the common practice of catering to male voters by offering liquor.
A video of Harjit Singh has gone viral on social media, wherein he is saying: “Everyone talks about men and serves them liquor, but I speak about women and announce to give Rs 1,100, a suit and a double bed blanket to every woman voter on the polling day. Besides, special uniforms will be given to the students and a van will be arranged for them to go to school in neighbouring Jhabelwali village. Further, after becoming the village sarpanch, I will give five-marla plots from the 20-acre panchayati land to those families who will have to relocate due to an upcoming canal.”
Meanwhile, some village residents claimed that Manga had not filed his nomination yet and was making big promises. “There are two more candidates in the fray and Manga is not having such resources to keep his word,” said a former sarpanch of the village.
