On the call of the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA), the doctors at Sangrur Civil Hospital today observed a strike from 8 am to 11 am as they kept their OPDs closed. They also staged a dharna in the hospital premises. Moreover, some patients also took part in the dharna.

Due to the strike during the first three hours of the day, health services remained paralysed at the hospital. As per information, hundreds of patients had gotten OPD slips from the ‘parchi counters’ of the hospital; however, they were not treated till after the dharna was over.

The PCMSA district president, Dr Indermanjot Singh, said they agitated to get three particular demands accepted and implemented. He said the demands were security of medical staff at hospitals, implementation of the Assured Career Progression (ACP) Scheme and recruitment of doctors as they were overburdened by staff shortages.
