Amid a row over appointment and removal of Takht Jathedars, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has convened a meeting of its executive body at its headquarters here on Wednesday.

Refraining from revealing the details, SGPC secretary Partap Singh said the discussion would pertain to the routine administrative works.

Insiders, however, said the SGPC had received suggestions from various Sikh quarters regarding framing proposals for the appointment and removal of Takht Jathedars. These could be part of the discussion at the meeting, they said.

Several Sikh and Nihang Singh organisations were up in arms against the SGPC for unceremonious removal of three Takht Jathedars, Giani Raghbir Singh (Akal Takht), Giani Sultan Singh (Kesgarh Sahib) and Giani Harpreet Singh (Damdama Sahib) and gave an ultimatum to the SGPC to reinstate them and scrap their replacements.

Following the protest, the SGPC was compelled to come out with the proposal of defining the “code of conduct” for the appointment, jurisdiction, scope of rights and relieving of Akal Takht Jathedar.
