A complaint was immediately lodged with the city police that beefed up security in and around the shrine.

“Bomb disposal squads and anti-sabotage teams have been deployed to thwart any untoward incident,” said Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar while confirming the incident.

He said cyber crime and other police agencies have been roped in to investigate, adding that the police would crack the case soon.

“It appears to be an act of some mischievous elements speaking about incidents in South India,” Bhullar added.

SGPC manager Bhagwant Singh said the Internet section received the threatening mail. He said the mail was immediately forwarded to the police.

“The SGPC has enhanced security inside the shrine while the police have also made elaborate arrangements outside. We are keeping a close eye inside the complex,” he said.
