Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu said today that the state government would spend Rs 151 crore for the development of Sangrur and Bhawanigarh town and Rs 100 crore for Barnala.

“From today I have started touring the state to distribute required funds for development. Out of total Rs 151 crore, Rs 108 crore would be spent on Sangrur city, while the remaining will be spent on the development of Bhawanigarh town. Today, I have released Rs 2 crore to complete the construction of the Bhawanigarh bus stand,” said Sidhu while talking to mediapersons at the house of Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla in Sangrur.

He said Rs 7 crore had been sanctioned for the renovation of the historic Sangrur Banasar garden, Rs 1.70 crore for the Vadda Ghallughara memorial at Kup Rohira and Rs 1 crore for the Moonak Fort.

Local Bodies Director Karnesh Sharma, Tourism and Cultural Affairs Director Malwinder Singh Jaggi and other senior officers of the Local Bodies Department also accompanied Sidhu to Sangrur and Barnala districts.

“I will write to the Centre and Pakistan to preserve the originality of the gurdwara during the construction of the Kartarpur Corridor. People from across the world will come to visit the original gurdwara and it must be preserved,” said Sidhu.

He ducked queries when asked that whether the party should appoint Deputy CM in the state. “I am not interested in Central politics and I will always serve my state. We will fulfil all promises,” he said.

He said the government had sanctioned a grant of Rs 100 crore for the overall development of Barnala, adding that the departments concerned would soon get the money to start development projects.
