After The Tribune highlighted that an Apheresis machine worth Rs 25 lakh has been lying unused at the Sangrur Civil Hospital since November 2018, local MLA and Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla took up the matter with the Health Minister, Balbir Singh Sidhu.

“After reading the news, I have written to the Health and Family Welfare Minister for issuing directions to officials concerned for the issuance of licence to operate the unused Apheresis machine to help patients get better treatment,” Singla said.

Doctors at the hospital said around 10 years ago, the machine was shifted out of the Sangrur Civil Hospital to Hoshiarpur, before being brought back in the last week of November 2018.

The Apheresis machine was brought for the purpose of separating platelets from blood.

“I will also take up the matter with other senior officials of the Health Department. I will try my best to get it done at the earliest,” he said.

Local BJP leader Jatinder Kalra also wrote to the senior authorities for the issuance of licence.

“It’s shocking that such an important machine has been lying unused at the hospital merely because of lack of licence. I have written to the senior authorities after reading the news,” Kalra added.
