Chandigarh, January 6

The government will soon introduce GPMS (Government Property Management System), a web-based application for creating a single database of properties, including land and buildings, owned by the government in its various departments. This will make a ready database of infrastructure available with the government and assist it in making better policy decisions for optimum utilisation of infrastructure.

“At the moment, we don’t have any database of government properties. In fact, we don’t know how many buildings or land we own across the state. So, we are creating a web-based application which will be launched in a month or two that will enable us to know the details of properties at the click of a button,” said Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal at a press meet on the achievements of the government.

He said the database would help in optimum utilisation of resources. He said for expenditure rationalisation, the state shifted 470 government offices from private to government buildings, which led to annual savings of Rs 6.42 crore. — TNS
