Sanyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM) candidate from Gidderbaha Gurpreet Kotli’s campaign style is unique. For, the 33-year-old, who has done MSc (Physics), has been driving a tractor from one village to another to mobilise support.
A Punjabi song “Chitte bagle, neele mor” plays loudly on his tractor to draw attention. He even delivers speeches while standing on his tractor. He then sits in the village ‘sath’ (a common place where people usually play cards) to urge everyone to vote and support him.
Gurpreet, who earned popularity during the ‘kisan andolan’, has over 68,000 subscribers on YouTube and 3.85 lakh followers on Facebook. Wherever he goes, he urges people to donate money. “I have announced that if I become an MLA, I will donate all my property, except my house, to the state government. I will survive on the salary of an MLA. The other rich candidates should also announce the same if they really want to serve the people,” Gurpreet said.
He says, “My fight is with the influential leaders. The SSM has fielded me at the eleventh hour but I will work relentlessly. Some NRIs have given me an assurance to help carry out development works in a number of villages of Gidderbaha.”
