Lambi, September 19

Reacting to an FIR registered against him in an assault case, SAD chief Sukhbir Badal said he never instigated anyone. “It’s all lies,” he said, adding that they went to a polling booth after Congress men captured it with the help of the police.

His party men along with security personnel in his cavalcade allegedly thrashed a Congress supporter and smashed the front and rear windshields of an Innova at Mandi Killianwali in the Lambi Assembly segment. The incident was reportedly captured by CCTV cameras installed outside the residence of Congress leader Gurjant Singh Brar.

In the video, Sukhbir’s cavalcade is seen moving towards the polling station at 10.43 am and then his bullet-proof vehicle applied brakes. A Scorpio vehicle in his cavalcade stopped an Innova and a number of Akalis and security personnel chased and thrashed its occupants, all Congressmen.

Sukhbir too alighted from his vehicle and allegedly watched Akalis, including party’s zila parishad candidate Tejinder Singh Middukhera, thrashing Congress supporter Rajinder Singh of Maur Khurd. The incident lasted nearly four minutes.

Manjit Singh Dhesi, SSP, Muktsar, said: “A case under Sections 323, 341, 506, 148, 149 and 427 IPC has been registered against former Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal and a number of unidentified persons. In the video, Sukhbir is clearly visible. We have also got a complaint in this regard.”
