SUV rams into Attari barrier

Amritsar, October 21

A speeding SUV rammed into the barricading put up by the BSF near the Integrated Check Post at the Attari-Wagah last night. BSF men later nabbed the driver.

After preliminary interrogation, the BSF authorities handed over Inderjit Singh, a resident of Islamabad area here, to the Gharinda police for further action.

Attari DSP Baldev Singh said as per the BSF, the incident occurred around 2 am on Thursday. However, nothing objectionable was found on him. A case was being registered against the suspect.

“ Initial questioning by the BSF suggested he was under mental stress,” said the DSP.

In a major security breach in 2015, a speeding SUV driven by a Canada-based NRI had crashed into the joint check post gate. Since then, heavy barricading was done near the ICP. — TNS
