Akal Takht has taken cognisance of the alleged violation of Sikh rehat maryada by Takht Patna Sahib Jathedar Giani Iqbal Singh’s son Gurparsad Singh.
Two days ago, a video went viral on social media wherein Gurparsad Singh, who works as chief accountant with Takht Patna Sahib, was allegedly seen smoking, with two glasses of alcohol lying before him on a table.
While Giani Iqbal Singh has already disowned him for indulging in anti-Panthic activity, the management of Takht Patna Sahib has suspended him.
Akal Takht acting Jathedar Giani Hapreet Singh said it was shocking that the son of a Jathedar was seen indulging in such acts. “An inquiry has already been ordered. The matter will be taken up with the five Sikh high priests and action will be taken accordingly,” he said.
Takht Patna Sahib Management Board head Avtar Singh Hit said he would invite a meeting of board members to discuss the matter.
Giani Iqbal Singh is already under the scanner over the charges of polygamy. Over two weeks back, his “second” wife Baljit Kaur had approached Jathedar Harpreet Singh and levelled allegations of harassment and thrashing against Giani Iqbal Singh. She claimed that he married her in 2003 by falsely stating that his first wife had expired. Giani Harpreet Singh said the matter was under consideration.
