Patiala: A day after teachers protested near the CM’s residence here, the police on Monday booked seven union leaders of the Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha and others for violating Section 144 of the CrPC. Those booked included Hardeep Toderpur, Atinder Pal Singh, Bharat Kumar, Gagan Ranu, Chamkor Singh, Tarsem Singh, and Davinder Singh. Morcha leader Vikram Dev said: “Instead of regularising the teachers at full pay scale, the government has registered cases against them. We will not stop our protest.” Tns
Taking steps to boost farm income: Harsimrat
New Delhi: In an effort to double farmers’ income by 2022, the Centre is working on a mechanism to link food and perishable items surplus producing states with those having demand for such items, said Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Monday after inaugurating the second edition of Indus Food, India’s official export-focused food and beverage trade fair. Patwari arrested for taking bribe
Chandigarh: The Vigilance Bureau arrested a revenue patwari red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from one Tejinderpal Singh of Ghal Kalan village in Moga district. The accused, Shinder Singh, is posted at Ghal Kalan in Moga district.In his complaint to the Vigilance Bureau, Tejinderpal said the patwari had been demanding Rs 4,000 from him for the mutation of his land. After verifying his information, a trap was laid and the accused was arrested in the presence of two official witnesses. TNS

Chandigarh: Gurpreet Singh has been unanimously elected President of the Institute of Sikh Studies for 2019 by the members of the General Body. The Institute of Sikh Studies, Chandigarh (IOSS), though not a research institute, is vested with the responsibility to provide correct, informative, enlightened and interpretative literature on various aspects of Sikhism based on well-documented sacred Sikh scripture, classic texts and established scholarship. Abohar: The Hanumangarh police on Monday seized 5 gm of heroin by intercepting a motorcycle outside the Thaladka police station. They arrested Ajay Suthar, Anil Kumar and Sheshkaran Bishnoi of Rawatsar under the NDPS Act. The drug was concealed under the seat cover, SHO Arvind Berad said. OC

Robbery bid
Ropar: Two unidentified miscreants allegedly tried to rob a petrol station manager of Rs 9 lakh on the Nurpur Bedi-Garhshankar road on Monday.
