This AAP critic won’t pause

Chandigarh: RTI activist and AAP supporter Rajinder Pal from Rampura Phul rode his bicycle for eight months campaigning for the AAP carrying its flags and posters for the 2017 Assembly elections.

Chandigarh: RTI activist and AAP supporter Rajinder Pal from Rampura Phul rode his bicycle for eight months campaigning for the AAP carrying its flags and posters for the 2017 Assembly elections. However, disappointed with the party's state of affairs, Rajinder is now using the same mode to campaign against it. He has put up anti-AAP and anti-Arvind Kejriwal flags and posters on his bicycle and would be seen pedalling it in Chandigarh, particularly near the Vidhan Sabha on Monday. “AAP is no longer a party of the aam aadmi, it is the party of khaas people (VIPs),” said Rajinder.

True soldier till his last

Abohar: After battling cancer for over five years, former IAF sergeant Sharat Chander Sharma (in pic) died at 76 last week. His family and friends take pride of his remaining in high spirit and battling the dreaded disease like a true soldier till his last breath. Instead of talking about his treatment or the pain he went through, he would share laughter while exchanging pleasantries, be it some social gathering or some event at the local military station, where he was a regular. He devoted much of his time to serve the society as an activist of Lions Clubs International. Recruited in the IAF in 1962, he was on board the Mi-14 Russian chopper that landed first at the Dhaka Airport on December 16, 1971, when Indian Army defeated Pakistan.

Gau sewaks, take note

Amritsar: Many organisations raised hue and cry over the death of eight cows in the holy city around a week ago. But the autopsy of the milch animals raised many questions. Polythene bags in kilos and Chinese strings, besides traces of calcium carbide (used for ripening fruit) were found from the stomach of the cattle. The authorities concerned as well as those who call themselves protectors of cows (gau rakshaks) must take note that bovines are left on the roads by their owners to feed on garbage and litter. It is a common practice adopted by dairy owners to save money on feeding the animals. Besides, gaushalas are also not doing their bit to give shelter to stray cattle.

Roadmap to smart schools

Fatehgarh Sahib: With the posting of Parshant Goyal (in pic) as the Deputy Commissioner of Fatehgarh Sahib, the educational institutions are likely to get a boost keeping in view his prior postings and experience as the Director General of School Education. He has already stated that education would be his top priority and he would be working to promote the quality of the education in the district. He has even chalked out a roadmap to achieve this objective. At least, 42 primary and 24 senior secondary schools will be converted into smart schools in the first phase. The remaining institutions will be covered in the second phase of the self-smart scheme by involving NGOs and panchayats. He said to ensure punctuality of teachers and other staffers, biometric attendance system would be installed in all schools.

YAD backs officer, takes to FB

Muktsar: Arrested Inspector General of Police (IGP) Paramraj Singh Umranangal (in pic), who is presently in police custody in connection with the Behbal Kalan firing incident, has gathered some support on social media. Some youngsters, a majority of them Youth Akali Dal (YAD) activists, have shared a post on Facebook with the sturdy cop’s photo in uniform, mentioning, “I stand with S. Paramraj Singh Umranangal, an officer of legendary discipline who being a devout Sikh himself, not only saved many lives in those tumultuous times, but also upheld the law and order of the state. An institution like the Punjab Police should be free of such vindictive politics.”
