Three killed in road accident near Bharatgarh in Ropar

According to police officials, the impact of the collision was so severe that the car was completely mangled, leaving little chance for the occupants to escape.

The deceased have been identified as Himanshu Sanan (24), a resident of Mohalla Raj Nagar, Nangal; Archit, a resident of Sector 4, Naya Nangal; and Arpita, a resident of Hoshiarpur district.

The police said Archit and Arpita died on the spot due to the severe injuries sustained in the crash. Himanshu was critically injured and was immediately rushed to Chandigarh for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries on reaching Mohali.

ASI Sartaj Singh, in-charge of the Bharatgarh police post, said preliminary investigation suggested that the driver may have dozed off while driving, causing the vehicle to go out of control before crashing into the stationary truck. He added that the exact circumstances leading to the accident were being thoroughly investigated.

The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over Nangal. Family members of the victims are devastated by the sudden loss.

The incident once again highlighted the road safety due to vehicles parked on roadsides and the risks associated with fatigue during long-distance travel.
