Two aides of gangster hurt in encounter
Two accomplices of gangster Jeevan Fauji were injured in a police encounter on the outskirts of Shahpur Jajjan village on Sunday. They were identified as Sarbjeet Singh and Sunil Masih.
SSP Suhail Qasim Mir said the gangsters were arrested from Jalandhar and Vadodra, respectively. Masih was arrested from Gujarat, while Sarbjeet was apprehended from Jalandhar. They allegedly fired at a Dera Baba Nanak shopkeeper on January 13 after Jeevan Fauji had made an extortion call.
“The CCTV tracking team traced the accused and subsequently deployed technical and human intelligence to arrest them. All conspirators and individuals who assisted them have also been arrested. After being interrogated, the accused led the Batala police to a location for the recovery of weapons used in the crime,” said the SSP.
On reaching there, they opened fire on the police after getting hold of the weapons hidden there. “In retaliatory firing, they sustained injuries on the legs. They were referred to an Amritsar hospital. Their condition is stated to be stable,” said an official.
