Two months on, man held for Sangrur woman’s stabbing in Canada

The accused had allegedly stabbed 27-year-old victim over 30 times

Nearly two months after the Sangrur resident Amanpreet Kaur Saini was allegedly murdered in Ontario, Canada, the police have arrested a man in connection with the case.

The accused has been identified as Manpreet Singh. While a manhunt was launched for him in Ontario, he managed to flee to India and stayed with his friends in Patiala and Haryana.

“Our police team had informed Canadian authorities that he could be hiding in India. We traced his movement in Sangrur following a tip-off,” said Sangrur SSP Sartaj Singh Chahal, confirming the arrest.

The accused had allegedly stabbed 27-year-old Saini over 30 times.

“He had morphed pictures of the victim and was threatening her sister, Gursimran Kaur in Canada. He also visited the family’s Sangrur house a few days ago and took some selfies there to threaten the family members to not pursue a case,” said Chahal.

During questioning, the accused confessed stabbing her after she refused his advances.

The victim’s father, Inderjit Singh, has demanded strict punishment for the accused.
