A British MP on Sunday extended support to UK-based NRI Jagtar Singh Johal, who was arrested by the Punjab Police recently for allegedly being the main conspirator of the communal killings in the state.
Martin Docherty-Hughes; Scottish National Party (SNP) MP for West Dunbartonshire, raised concern about the circumstances of Johal’s arrest and imprisonment in India.
“The lack of information being given to Jagtar’s family by the police and judicial authorities in Delhi following his arrest is alarming. I have raised this as a matter of urgency with the British High Commission of India and the Foreign Office,” tweeted Hughes.
“This has been an extremely distressing time for my constituent’s family and I am doing everything in my power to support them as their Member of Parliament,” Hughes said.
Indian-origin Labour and Co-operative MP for Birmingham Edgbaston Preet Kaur Gill also tweeted in support of Johal.
Thank you for raising this matter with the APPG Sikhs we shall be working with you to address this. @patmcfaddenmp @lucyallan @TanDhesi https://t.co/UR3yx5Yo3h

Deeply concerned about the arrest and imprisonment in India of my constituent Jagtar Singh Johal. I have given my full support to Jagtar's family here in West Dunbartonshire and will be doing all I can as their MP to help resolve the matter.https://t.co/Yui3iTV1xI
