The police sources said no contraband, suspicious material or identity document was found at the spot. The identity and nationality of the deceased were yet to be ascertained.

The incident assumes significance given the heightened security along the International Border with Pakistan amid continued attempts at cross-border smuggling and infiltration by anti-social elements.

Further details are awaited as the authorities conduct an investigation into the circumstances leading to the man’s movement towards the border fence.
