Amritsar, June 23
Washington-based organisation EcoSikh will plant 450 Guru Nanak sacred forests in Amritsar in the next five years to mark city’s 450th anniversary that falls in 2027.
Titled as “Eco Amritsar 450”, the five-year campaign will be launched on June 27 on the occasion of Amritsar Foundation Day. The campaign will engage the SGPC, civil society, educational institutions, diaspora, religious and government bodies.
The founding stone of Amritsar was laid by Guru Ramdas in 1577. In recent years, the city’s air quality has declined. Charan Singh, forest convener, EcoSikh, said in the last 38 months, they had planted over 400 forests as a part of its target to plant 1 million trees celebrating the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.
