Vigilance AIG named in rape, extortion case

In an old case of rape, outrage of modesty, criminal intimidation and corruption, an Assistant Inspector General (Vigilance) Ashish Kapoor has been named by the State Special Operating Cell (SSOC) here.

A senior official of the SSOC said it was an old case of raping a woman and extorting money from her in which the name of the senior cop had been named now. Earlier, jail superintendent Rajan Kapur has already been dismissed in the case.

Sources claimed that AIG Kapoor had been named in the FIR, having Sections 376 sub section (2) (a) (b) (c) (d), 354, 419, 506 of IPC and section 7, 13 of the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act.

The sources claimed that the victim, a native of Haryana, had recorded her statement before judicial magistrate in Mohali in which she had accused several cops.

She had levelled allegations against Kapoor of physically exploiting her when he was posted as Amritsar jail superintendent in 2016 and she was lodged in the jail in a case. She had further alleged that Kapoor had later falsely implicated her and her brother in an immigration fraud case. The victim had alleged that she was again raped by the senior cop, while she was lodged at Patiala jail.

‘Charges false’

AIG Kapoor termed all allegations false and fabricated. He is also said to have shot a letter to the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary, requesting transfer of investigations to any other police officer for free and fair investigation.
