Punjab warehousing official death case: Political leaders gather at police station as cops fail to register FIR
Will continue dharna till police registers an FIR against the accused minister and his accomplices, say political leaders
As the police failed to register a case in connection with the shocking suicide of Punjab Warehousing Corporation (PWC) District Magistrate Gagandeep Singh Randhawa, senior leaders from different political parties gathered at Ranjit Avenue police station in protest against the inaction.
They demanded immediate registration of a case against former Punjab Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar. In a video that surfaced after the incident, he purportedly claimed he had taken the step out of fear of Bhullar.
Earlier, SAD Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, along with Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha and senior Congress leader Partap Singh Bajwa, went to the police station and impressed upon the police to register a case.
Later, state BJP President Sunil Jakhar, senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia, Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, and other Congress leaders, Anil Joshi, Rakumar Verka, also arrived at the police station.
They alleged that even as the wife of the victim had lodged a complaint against Bhullar by name with the Ranjit Avenue police station, it had failed to register an FIR in this connection.
Randhawa’s wife, Upinder Kaur, had accused the minister of physical assault, hitting him with a pistol handle, and humiliated him to the extent that he ended his life by consuming a poisonous substance. She alleged that the minister, along with his father Sukhdev Singh Bhullar and personal assistant Dilbagh Singh, repeatedly forced him to favour them in the allotment of the tenders of PWC.
The political leaders said they would continue the dharna till the police register an FIR against the accused minister and his accomplices.
