Water from Pak erodes bundh in Ferozepur

FEROZEPUR: Following heavy discharge in the Sutlej from Pakistan, a bundh along the river near Tindiwala village was severely damaged on Saturday.

Ferozepur, August 24

Following heavy discharge in the Sutlej from Pakistan, a bundh along the river near Tindiwala village was severely damaged on Saturday.

The sudden release of water from the Kasur side in Pakistan led to erosion of a major portion of the bundh on Saturday evening following which the district administration got into action and started reinforcing it with the help of the Army and NDRF teams. Sources said the water current in the overflowing Sutlej had been extremely high for the past few days due to which the bundh built by the Army eroded fast.

DC Chander Gaind, SSP Vivek Sheel Soni and Drainage Department officials inspected the site. He said the work to reinforce the bundh had been launched on a war-footing to prevent any damage and loss to lives.

Drainage officials said they were trying their best to prevent collapse of the bundh. They said if the bundh gave away, then thousands of acres of standing crops would get submerged. — OC
