Paying tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh on his 85th martyrdom day at a state-level function today, Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Singh Mann said about 3,000 non-functional bus routes of the state would be revived to provide employment to the youths and to facilitate better road connectivity services for the people.
Mann said about 3,000 new buses would be required to ply on these routes. He said the state government would provide loans to youths to purchase new buses. He added that with the revival of the routes, about 10,000 youths would get employment, as every bus would give employment to at least three persons.
Mann paid floral tributes to Shaheed Udham Singh’s portrait and honoured eight distant relatives, including Gian Singh, Ranjit Kaur, Jeet Singh, Mohan Singh, Gurmeet Singh and Malkeet Singh.
Cabinet Minister and AAP MLA from Sunam Aman Arora presented a photograph of Shaheed Udham Singh to Chief Minister Mann.
The CM said the government had been constructing a dam with a capacity of 206 MW across the Ravi at Dhar Kalan (Pathankot). He said that from there, the Ravi water would flow into a canal to irrigate the lands of the Doaba area. He said the AAP-led government had also been going to construct the Malwa canal, which would begin from Hari-ke-Pattan and reach up to the Rajasthan border. The length of this canal would be 149 km, the CM added.
The Sunam MLA, Aman Arora, raised various demands before the CM regarding the renovation of the Sunam bus stand and buildings of Shaheed Udham Singh Government College. Hence, Mann asked Arora to prepare project reports for the bus stand and the college and assured the MLA that funds would not be an issue for them.
Mann said that the Punjab Government would make efforts to get Punjabi added to artificial intelligence, as the government had already been working on this project.
Earlier today, the CM laid the foundation stone for the Centre for Training and Employment of Punjab Youth (C-PYTE) at Kherri village (near Sangrur) that would be constructed for Rs 29 crore. The CM said the project would impart training to 1,200 youth every year to help them get jobs in the police, paramilitary forces and armed forces. He said the centre would be set up on 10 acres.
