A college teacher was held hostage at knifepoint, assaulted and locked in a storeroom before two robbers decamped with cash and gold jewellery from her house here.

The incident took place on Friday afternoon in the Jain Nagari area and it came to light when the woman’s husband, Sonu Chugh, returned home and freed her from the room on hearing her screams.

The police have registered a case under Sections 307 and 333 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against unknown persons.

According to the complaint lodged in this regard, victim Jyoti had returned from her college on Friday afternoon when two youths barged into her house.

They got hold of her and snatched her gold earrings. They took her to a room and asked her to open an almirah.

When she refused to comply with their demand, they put a sharp weapon on her neck and threatened to kill her.

As she opened the almirah, they looted ₹3.50 lakh in cash and over 200 gm of gold jewellery kept there, the complaint said.

Before fleeing, they gagged her, tied her hands and locked her in the storeroom.

When Jyoti's husband returned home after picking their daughter from her school, he heard her screams and freed her.
