Workers stage protest over Montek report to tide over financial crisis

Members of various workers’ unions carried out a protest rally near Teachers’ Home in Bathinda against the recommendations of the Montek Singh Ahluwalia report  .

Members of the democratic teachers’ front (DTF) and contractual workers from different departments carried out a protest march from different parts of the city before burning an effigy near Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal’s office.

Resham Singh, president of the DTF, said, “The recommendations of the Ahluwalia’s report are anti contractual workers, farmers, small traders and labourers, and favours corporate houses. The recommendations, which include change in the pay pattern of the state government employees as per the Central Government pay pattern, pay cuts, increase in the development tax, among many others, will not be tolerated at all.” — TNS
