Pathankot, June 16

A Patiala youth, who had eloped with a Pathankot-based girl a year ago, ended his life while in the custody of the Pathankot police.

SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said the youth, Harmandeep Singh (24), hanged himself from the fan with a piece of cloth this morning. “He had been brought from Sanuar in Patiala district yesterday after the parents of the girl complained to the police that he was harassing their daughter. We produced him in a court yesterday, which sent him to judicial custody. The court had ordered that he undergoes a Covid test. We had lodged him in the Nangal Bhoor police station in transit remand,” said the SSP. He added that an inquest had been marked into the incident.
