Railways sets up five-bed isolation centre in Amritsar

Taking preventive measures amid the Covid-19 scare, the Railways has set up a five-bed isolation centre at its local sub-divisional hospital. Besides, it has launched an awareness drive for passengers.

Rajesh Aggarwal, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Ferozepur Division, said in view of spread of the coronavirus, several arrangements had been made to prevent and control the disease.

Posters throwing light on the disease and its prevention have been put up at all prominent places, including railway stations, offices, railway colonies, hospitals and schools. Officials are making passengers aware of the quarantine facility through the public address system. Protective equipment such as masks, gloves and eye shields have been made available to counter any adverse situation.

Fumigation of all coaches, blankets and curtains are being carried out.

Stickers highlighting ways of prevention from the spread of the coronavirus have been pasted in all coaches. Staff members have been provided with masks. All handrails, taps, upper berth ladders and berth rexine being cleaned using the bleach (sodium hypochlorite) solution.

The DRM said counselling of staff members had been done to ensure cleaning of infection-prone surfaces.

Eateries fail to take preventive measures Many eateries, including restaurants and dhabas, which witness a large number of people have failed to take preventive measures in the wake of the coronavirus threat. Residents said washing of hands and check-up by infra red thermometer of visitors should be made compulsory.
