The tall claims of the Mohali Municipal Corporation were exposed as road gullies at key intersections in the city were choked, causing waterlogging due to incessant rain during the past two days.

Heavy waterlogging was witnessed around the roundabouts and streets in various sectors due to which road gullies are lying blocked. However, no major waterlogging was witnessed in main parts of the city.

Councillor Kuljit Singh Bedi said waterlogging was witnessed in the streets as the Municipal Corporation had failed to clear road gullies, especially in Sector 70.

“Continuous rain for hours left our area inundated. Thank God, heavy spell of rain did not last long, otherwise rainwater could have entered our houses,” said Suresh Kumar, a local resident.

He, along with other residents, demanded that the authorities should redress the problem of choked drains because they faced huge inconvenience during rainy season.

“Pedestrians are facing a tough time to reach their workplaces due to waterlogging and slush all around,” said Surinder Singh, a private employee at the local Industrial Area.

Several roads in Phase 7 and 8 of the Industrial Area were seen submerged under water. The stretch on the Mohali-Kharar Highway near VR Punjab Mall also witnessed waterlogging, which also led to traffic jam. — TNS
