The Salem Tabri police today claimed to have busted a gang of robbers and arrested six of its members. The police recovered sharp weapons from their possession. The gang was planning to commit a major robbery.
Additional DCP-I Gurpreet Singh Sikand and SHO Kawaljit Singh conducted a press conference. The suspects have been identified as Lakhwinder Singh Lucky, alias Ghora, of Salem Tabri; Vishal Bhandari of Jassian Road, Sahil Kathoria of Sarup Nagar, Jatinder Rohit of Aman Nagar, Raj Kumar Bachi of Salem Tabri and Anil Kumar Chohth of New Aman Nagar.
The police recovered four motorcycles, one stolen auto-rickshaw, 10 mobile phones and sharp weapons from the suspects.
Sikand said Anil, who was the kingpin, had formed the gang about a few years ago. They had committed more than 12 robberies in the past few weeks. Two FIRs against the gang have been registered at the local police stations.
The gang had struck in city areas, including Salem Tabri, Basti Jodhewal, Ladhowal and old city. Apart from robbery cases, the gang members had also been booked in other criminal cases of fraud, theft and liquor smuggling.
