The counter intelligence wing (CI), along with the CIA-3 wing of the city police, arrested two members of the gang printing fake currency and recovered Rs 22.60 lakh in fake notes.

DCP (Detective) SS Dhindsa along with Inspector (CI) Jagjivan Singh held a press conference in this regard today. The arrested suspects were identified as Vicky, a resident of Raikot, and Sahil Puhal, a resident of Iyali Khurd. The suspects were working at the DMC Hospital laundry.

DCP Dhindsa said acting on a tip-off, a naka was laid at Shimlapuri where two bike-borne persons identified as Vicky and Sahil were stopped for checking. During checking bag, which the bikers were carrying, initially Rs 9.17 lakh in fake currency was recovered, the DCP added. Later, Rs 13.43 lakh was recovered from the house of Vicky, the DCP said.

The police also recovered machinery used to print fake currency, including a laptop, a printer, a laminator and three cutters, eight ink tubes, a chemical pouch, a thinner, and scale, the DCP added.

Interrogation of the suspects was on to inquire about their clients to whom they were supplying counterfeit currency, the DCP said.

So far, in the probe, another suspect Naresh Kumar, a resident of Chhattisgarh, was identified as member of the gang, the DCP added. He used to find customers to sell currency, the DCP said. The suspects had already sold fake currency to the tune of Rs 5 lakh to their clients in Haibowal Khurd, the DCP added.

During further probe, entire gang involved in the fake currency racket would be busted and more arrests were likely in the case, the DCP said.
