Rs 49-lakh gold haul at airport

MOHALI: Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 1.283 kg of gold, worth around Rs 49.11 lakh, from a passenger travelling on the Dubai-Chandigarh flight, which landed at the Chandigarh international airport at Mohali around 10.30 am today.

Sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 1.283 kg of gold, worth around Rs 49.11 lakh, from a passenger travelling on the Dubai-Chandigarh flight, which landed at the Chandigarh international airport at Mohali around 10.30 am today.

The passenger, Abdul Hafiz from Delhi, had concealed the booty in a cavity of an electric iron. Besides, he has also attached gold rings in a ladies purse to dodge the authorities concerned. The rings had a metallic coating.

According to sources, the DRI sleuths had got a tip-off in this regard. A case in this connection has been registered and investigation are on.
