In a unique step aimed at ensuring women empowerment and awareness in the district, the Nawanshahr police on Friday launched ‘Disha’ scheme in the district.

The scheme was launched by Inspector General of Police Jaskaran Singh, Deputy Commissioner Vinay Bublani and Senior Superintendent of Police Alka Meena here today. Addressing the gathering, Jaskaran Singh described it as a noble initiative of the district police. He said it would be helpful in ensuring women empowerment and awareness among the women thereby acting as a milestone in ensuring the safety and security of women. He said this would be able in making the women capable of dealing with any sort of adverse situations.

In her address, the SSP said the district police were committed for ensuring the safety and security of women. She said that any sort of assault on the dignity of women would not be tolerated at any cost and severest of severe punishment for the perpetrators of this heinous crime would be ensured at any cost.

On the occasion, Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepika Singh informed the students about the measures being taken by the district administration for ensuring safety of the women. She said the police administration had issued helpline numbers for the safety of women. She said the police were ever ready for bailing out women in any sort of crisis. The officers also had detailed interactions with students.
