St Joseph’s Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh, organised a two-day capacity building programme on ‘School Health and Wellness’, facilitated by CBSE-certified resource person Monica Chawla and eminent trainer Urvashi Bhatia. The programme unfolded as a thoughtful exploration of the emotional, physical, social, and ethical dimensions of student well-being. The eleven modules of the school health and wellness curriculum were creatively introduced through the evocative acronym ‘HEALTHY RIVERS’, symbolising the steady, life-sustaining flow of awareness, empathy, and responsibility within school ecosystems. Through reflective activities, case studies, role-plays, and collaborative tasks, teachers engaged deeply with themes, such as mental health, resilience, interpersonal relationships, nutrition, gender equality, digital responsibility, and safety. Wisdom drawn from ancient texts, real-life classroom experiences, and contemporary media lent both depth and relevance to the discussions. Reflecting on the significance of the programme, Principal Monica Chawla remarked, “True education nurtures not only informed minds but also compassionate hearts. When teachers are equipped to understand the emotional and social realities of children, schools transform into spaces of trust, resilience, and holistic growth.”
