Dr Darshan Singh Asht delivers speech on Mother Language Day

A special speech by Shiromani Punjabi children’s literature writer, Sahit Akademi Awardee and State Awardee Dr Darshan Singh Asht was delivered in the morning assembly at Senior Sec Model School, Punjabi University, Patiala. During the speech, Dr Darshan Singh Asht shed extensive light on the history, present and challenges faced by the International Mother Language Day. Dr Asht also asked the students some questions related to Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiyat, which the students answered with great enthusiasm. Punjabi poems and speeches were delivered by students Khushmanpreet Kaur, Noorwinder Kaur, Ansh and Mankirat Kaur. The students of the school who participated in the Punjabi Olympiad-2025 competitions organised by the Punjab Government were honoured. Ravinder Kaur Sidhu, a social worker, also gave a speech on mother tongue to the students. Schoolteacher Gurpreet Kaur Malhi presented poems of famous Punjabi poets. School in-charge Satvir Singh Gill said the new generation always needs to be aware of their mother tongue and heritage. The school in-charge and staff also honoured Dr Darshan Singh Asht. All staff members of the school were present at the event.
