Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 16, Chandigarh, resonated with enthusiasm, discipline and sporting spirit as it celebrated its Annual Sports Day. The sprawling school grounds came alive with vibrant performances, competitive events and heartfelt appreciation of talent. The programme began on an auspicious note with a delightful welcome song and dance by tiny tots, which instantly set a festive mood. This was followed by a colourful medley performance by tiny tots, a lively gidda by primary school students, and an impressive patriotic dance performance by senior students, showcasing the school’s emphasis on holistic development. The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Arvind Jain, who generously contributed 560 medals for students, Naveen Kumar Goel, SMC member, Ankush Garg, Regional Head, ICICI Bank, and Tarunpreet Singh, Relationship Manager, ICICI Bank. The guests appreciated the meticulous organisation of the event and encouraged students to pursue excellence both on and off the field. A wide range of athletic events such as 100-metre races, banana race, cone race, sack race, tug-of-war and several others kept the excitement alive throughout the day. Nearly 550 students participated enthusiastically, reflecting the school’s strong sporting culture. Special honours were conferred during the prize distribution ceremony. Shivam of Class XII (humanities) was declared the Best Athlete, while Janvi Jindal of Class XII (commerce) was felicitated for her extraordinary achievement of setting 12 Guinness Book Records in skating. Students and teams were also honoured for their outstanding performances at interschool, state, national and international levels. The much-coveted Sports Trophy was bagged by Rose House, earning cheers from fellow house members. The celebration concluded on a high note, leaving behind memories of energy, excellence and unity — true to the spirit of sportsmanship that the school continues to uphold.
