My wishes in lockdown

Navtesh Chaudhary, Class IX, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh

I wish I could go past through my new school’s gate,

Little did I know this was in my fate.

I wish to see new faces and meet new persons,

The ones spotting stubble while some wearing turban.

I wish to make new stories of fun and joy,

The ones where we would trip, the ones where we played decoy,

I wish to go on a shopping spree,

I wish that in summers I could climb trees.

I wish I could go back to the park,

I wish I could play cricket with my friends until the dark.

I wish I could take to school my new bottle, my new bag,

Alas! It stays in the wrap with a tag.

I never knew I would have these wishes one day,

I never thought there would come a time, I'd be locked inside all day.

Now while I am here, I have another important wish,

Let the world be a happy place once again,

Learning lessons, and moving on with more smiles, less pain.

Oh! My Almighty that is all I wish

Our earth

Anica Bajju, Class IX, Delhi Public School, Chandigarh

I am so much but human,

Acting inhumane,

On this place of my birth,

Our treasured Earth,

More hating less loving,

Always taking never giving,

Destroying and not saving,

Acting without thinking,

Why wouldn't the Nature revolt?

I am so much but human,

With poor acumen,

Guided by lust for power,

This greed turning my emotions sour.

The result of our destruction,

Is Nature's agony,

Someone has to pay the price,

Which shouldn't be the Earth.

Pathetic neglect of the aged

Children should be taught the importance of practising compassion
and benevolence towards their aging parents.

Akshit Kanwar, Class VIII, St Mary’s School, Chandigarh

What I am writing about is a very serious and crucial issue in today's world. These words come from trembling hands and a heart filled with pain. We have forgotten to respect elders and instead started making fun of them.

If we look at the life of old people, then we will see the struggles they are facing. Nowadays, instead of being supported, they are thrown out from their own homes. They are not involved in any decisions in the family. It is a matter of concern that today's generation is chasing money. They are going to other countries for better job opportunities while leaving their parents behind without any arrangements for them.

It is alarming and pathetic at the same time that old age homes are increasing day by day. In every city, whether big or small, old age homes are everywhere wherein the inmates are living disappointed lives. They are no longer happy. There is no one with whom they can share their feelings. They keep waiting for their children to come back and take them home. To mitigate this problem, some good people are even going to old age home to spend time with them and make them feel more loved and cared about. Still nobody can take place of their children.

This shows that there is a need to inculcate moral values in today's generation. Children should be taught the importance of practising compassion and benevolence towards their aging parents. They should not feel that their parents are a burden on them. Only then, this problem can be resolved. They must remember their parents have always been there for them and now it is their moral duty to take care of them.
