Cycle of life

Man is a creature of habit, and that trait defines a lot many individuals. Our newspaper vendor, for instance. He’s been delivering it in our sector for decades, always on a bicycle, always smiling, always a look of quiet contentment on his face. And, never caring to utter a word beyond, ‘Your bill’, at the start of every month.

It is strange that I have never asked him about his family, where he lives. There could a reason for that. You never know, he just might turn around and politely reprimand with a counter-question. ‘Have I ever asked you about your family?’

Happy New Year, I wished him, and he smiled back. I mustered courage to ask him this time: ‘Why the cycle even at this age?’ He laughed, ‘Let’s say it’s the cycle of life, now you know why I’m healthy and always on the go.’ Yes, sir!
