Shimla gets season’s first snowfall, tourists rejoice

Shimla on Friday night experienced the season's first snowfall, leading to a surge of tourists to savour the snow-covered landscape.

Tourists in Shimla were seen dancing and enjoying snowfall in the Mall Road and the Ridge Ground.

Parts of Himachal Pradesh also received fresh snowfall on Friday night bringing cheer to the residents.

Tribal dominant districts of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur and tourist places of Kufri and Manali received snowfall for the second consecutive day, while Shimla received the first snowfall of the season.

The state is likely to witness heavy rains and snowfall till Sunday.

Kinnaur's Kalpa and Lahaul-Spiti's Keylong witnessed 23 cm and 12.5 cm snowfall respectively.

Kufri in Shimla district and Manali in Kullu district received 30 cm and 12 cm snowfall.

Dharamshala received 102.2 mm rainfall, Kangra (83.5 mm), Chamba (73 mm) and Una (46.6 mm).

Shimla received 15.8 mm rainfall while Nahan (19.2 mm), Mandi (14.1 mm) and Bilaspur (12 mm).

The minimum temperatures in Kufri, Manali, Dalhousie and Kalpa were minus 2.6, minus 1.6, minus 1.5, minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The minimum temperatures in Shimla, Dharamshala, Chamba, Mandi, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Una were 1.9, 2.6, 4, 8, 10, 10.2 and 10.5 degrees Celsius respectively, the weather department said.

The highest temperature in the state was recorded in Bilaspur at 17.5 degrees Celsius. With PTI inputs
