Sidhu vs Sidhu: Why husband and wife are publicly poles apart
While Navjot Kaur has been taking the Congress on, Navjot Singh is keeping himself away from politics
The popular husband-wife Navjot Sidhu couple, who have hogged the political-social news spectrum for some years now both in Punjab and on the national political firmament, are back in the limelight — for totally different reasons.
Wife Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, the former Congress MLA from Amritsar East who was dismissed from the party recently, has been going all guns blazing, referring to Rahul Gandhi as “Pappu”. The pejorative was coined by the BJP some years ago to mock the Gandhi scion.
In a series of tweets, Dr Sidhu has accused Rahul of being disconnected from ground realities and surrounded by self-serving loyalists. In politics-obsessed Punjab, some say she is cozying up to the BJP. Others are calling it a “Sidhu vs Sidhu” battle.

The former Congresswoman’s expulsion from the party has come after a period of intense hostility between her and the party leadership. Her troubles with the party began in December 2025 when she was suspended for making a controversial remark that a “suitcase of Rs 500 crore” was required to become the chief minister of Punjab.
On the other hand, the X handle of cricketer-turned-politician-turned showbiz man Navjot Singh Sidhu still has Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi on the cover photo. He has often described them as his mentors and “guiding angels”.
The war of words unleashed by Dr Sidhu against Rahul is being seen with even greater keenness after the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha recently escalated his attack on PM Narendra Modi over former Army chief General MM Naravane’s memoir, leading to several disruptions in the ongoing Budget session.
But Navjot Singh Sidhu has maintained a stoic silence on the social media activity of his wife. Instead, he is only sharing videos of himself pepping up India's top comedy talk show with one liners and couplets. Otherwise known for his cryptic messages against his political opponents, this time he is keeping himself away.
Political analysts point out that though Navjot Singh Sidhu has kept away from politics for the past few months, the wife has “literally taken over his role” of targeting the political opponents in the Punjab Congress.
While the Congress is questioning Dr Sidhu’s loyalty, the Sidhu couple is keeping everyone guessing of their next political move. By their mere silence or outbursts, they are keeping the pot boiling in Punjab politics.
