Slum kids set example, give Rs 8,000 to I-T Dept

Continuing the Income Tax Department’s — Jagriti: Pay tax build your India — campaign, eight more students from schools for slum children in Ludhiana came with their teachers to give demand drafts of Rs 1,000 each to the Income Tax Department as tax contribution towards nation-building, out of their piggy bank savings deposited in banks. Further, three responsible citizens, namely Neelam Paswan, Saurav and Bacchu Devi, all far below the exemption limit under the IT Act also brought demand drafts of Rs 1000 each to the department.

Saluting the act by the children and the other contributors, Biney Jha, Chief Commissioner Income Tax, Ludhiana, said awareness, thoughtfulness and patriotism of children and these people made each draft of Rs 1000 inspiring and priceless.

The children brought letters addressed to the department describing their journey from the slum to school, how they were inspired by the efforts of their teachers and their interaction with the income tax department and why they decided to contribute their pocket money as tax. They spoke of their dreams of becoming doctors, teachers, police-personnel, joining the army and becoming good human beings.

The CCIT stated that he was confident that this inspiring example set by these children and others would inspire everyone by convincing them to invest in their children’s future by paying tax and helping build a strong, prosperous and happy India.

Three more come forward

• Three responsible citizens, Neelam Paswan, Saurav and Bacchu Devi, all below the exemption limit under the I-T Act, also gave demand drafts of Rs1,000 each to the Income Tax Department.
