Former champions Mohun Bagan rode on a second-half Dipanda Dicka strike to eke out a hard-fought 1-0 win over I-League debutants Real Kashmir FC at the TRC Ground here today.
The win, second for the Kolkata giants, helped them jump to second spot with eight points from four games.
Real Kashmir, on the other hand, suffered their second successive defeat at home, which kept them on four points from an equal number of games and down to eighth place. Both the coaches used the opportunity to give first starts of the season to a few players, arguably to test them out before the business end of the league.
Real Kashmir coach David Robertson brought in Khalid Qayoom, Abhash Thapa and Nagen Tamang. The trio replaced Farhan Ganie, Brian Mascarenhas and Muhammad Hammad in the playing XI. Mohun Bagan coach Sankarlal Chakraborty opted for just one change, giving defender Dalraj Singh a start in place of Kim Kima.
