ICC U-19 World Cup starts today

CHRISTCHURCH:The 12th edition of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, which will feature 16 teams, including the Rahul Dravid-coached India, will kick off in New Zealand tomorrow.



Christchurch, Jan 12 (IANS) 

The 12th edition of the ICC Under-19 World Cup, which will feature 16 teams, including the Rahul Dravid-coached India, will kick off in New Zealand tomorrow. On the opening day, defending champions West Indies will lock horns with New Zealand, and two-time champions Pakistan will take on dark horse Afghanistan. In other matches, Bangladesh will face Namibia, and Papua New Guinea play Zimbabwe.

Three-time champions India will start their campaign against Australia n Sunday. The Prithvi Shaw-led team hammered South Africa in the warm-up game, and would look to carry the momentum into their opener.

After opening their campaign against the Australians, the Indians will take on Papua New Guinea on February 16, before facing Zimbabwe on January 19. All teams in each group will play each other once. The top two from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals, and the top four will qualify for the semifinals. 

The final will be played on February 3. — IANS
