ISL: Mumbai beat Pune 2-0 to register first win

Mumbai: Mumbai City FC defeated archrivals FC Pune City 2-0 to record their first win in the Indian Super League here on Friday. For Mumbai, Modou Sougou (25th minute) and Rafael Bastos (45th minute on penalty) were on target. After their first win, Mumbai are placed sixth with three points from as many games, while Pune are currently ninth with one point from two games.

Telugu Titans beat Patna Pirates 35-31 

Telugu Titans rode on a solid defensive performance by Vishal Bhardwaj and Abozar Mighani to beat defending champions Patna Pirates 35-31 in the Pro Kabaddi League here on Friday. The defenders combined to score 11 tackle points and kept Patna’s star raider Pardeep Narwal at bay to give Titans’ their third win of the season.

Black Cap Guptill out of Pakistan series 

New Zealand’s limited overs opening batsman Martin Guptill will miss the upcoming series against Pakistan after straining his calf playing domestic cricket, officials said on Friday. Selector Gavin Larsen said Guptill had no choice but to withdraw from the ODI and T20 squads.

Kenya’s ex-sports minister charged over Oly corruption  

Former Kenyan sports minister Hassan Wario and two other officials were on Friday formally charged with corruption relating to the 2016 Rio Olympics on Friday. Wario pleaded not guilty to six charges levelled against him of abuse of office and was released on a $10,000 bond. However, Kipchoge Keino, a two-time Olympic gold medallist on the track and a former National Olympic Committee chief of Kenya (NOCK)  did not appear at the hearing in a Nairobi anti-corruption court. — Agencies
