Boise (Us), August 25

Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri made a couple of birdies but missed a lot more in the third round to be tied-12th at the Albertsons Boise Open here.

Lahiri shot a 2-under 69 for an 11-under total after three rounds. Lahiri, who had finished tied-7th in the first event, is sure to secure his PGA Tour card for 2019-20 with a top-20 finish in the second event.

Norwegian sensation Viktor Hovland carded a 7-under 64 to leap to the top of the leaderboard at 15-under through three rounds.

Aditi zooms to T-8th

Aurora (Canada): India’s Aditi Ashok was on her way to shooting her best round of 2019 before she made a double-bogey to end up carding a 6-under 66 in the third round of the CP Women’s Open here.

Aditi was 8-under through 16 holes and inside the top-5 before the disastrous double-bogey on the 17th pulled her back as she finished at tied-8th after Round 3.

Aditi’s best round this season was a 7-under 63.

Rolex Rankings No. 1 Jin Young Ko and Nicole Broch Larsen were tied atop the leaderboard at 18-under.

Gangjee finishes 52nd

Hokkaido (Japan): Rahil Gangjee, India’s only card holder on the Japan Tour, shot a 1-under 71 to finish tied-52nd in the Segasammy Cup here today. Gangjee shot a total of 4-under 284.

Ryo Ishikawa shot a 68 to reach 20-under and win by four shots over Juvic Pagunsan (67). It was Ishikawa’s second win in the event after having won it in 2014.

Koepka leads

Atlanta: Brooks Koepka earned a one-shot lead after the third round at the Tour Championship in the race for the $15 million first prize.

A deft chip at the par-five 18th set up a tap-in birdie and a 2-under 68 at East Lake.

At 15-under, Koepka will head into the final round with the narrowest of leads over fellow American Xander Schauffele (67) and Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy (68). Englishman Paul Casey (68) and American Justin Thomas (71) trail by four shots, Thomas left reeling by a triple-bogey at the 16th hole.

Lightning strike

Six spectators were injured when lightning struck a tree during the third round on Saturday. The strike occurred 28 minutes after play was halted when thunderstorms hit the East Lake Golf Club, Tour rules official Mark Russell said. The PGA Tour said two lightning strikes had hit the course.

“At 4.45pm, there were two lightning strikes at East Lake Golf Club; a tree near the range/15 green/16 tee was hit, and debris from that strike injured four people,” the Tour said in a statement. — Agencies
