Nottingham, May 18

Jason Roy fought sleeplessness and concerns about his new-born daughter when he made a stunning match-winning century against Pakistan in the fourth ODI yesterday.

Roy’s 114 helped England score their third consecutive win in the series to take a 3-0 lead with one for play. Roy later revealed that he had spent much of the night in hospital. His daughter, Everly, who is seven weeks old, had been unwell and had to be taken to hospital. She is understood to be out of danger now.

“I had a bit of a rough morning, so this one is a special one for me and my family,” Roy said. “It was my little one. We had to take her to hospital at 1.30 in the morning. I stayed there until 8.30 and came back for a couple of hours sleep. I got to the ground just before warm-up and cracked on. It was a very emotional hundred.”

Brief Scores: Pakistan: 340/7 (Babar 115, Hafeez 59, Fakhar 57); England: 341/7 (Roy 114, Stokes 71*)
