SINGAPORE: Caroline Wozniacki overcame a mid-match wobble to get her WTA Finals title defence back on track with a 7-5 3-6 6-2 victory over Petra Kvitova in Singapore on Tuesday. The Danish world No. 3 ended a run of four straight defeats to the Czech to stay alive in the tournament. Elina Svitolina beat Karolina Pliskova 6-3 2-6 6-3. AFP

Praggnanandhaa beats Eljanov, Anand held 

World’s third youngest Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa upset Pavel Eljanov of Ukraine but five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand was held by Rasmus Svane in the third round of the Isle of Man International chess tournament here today. Praggnanandhaa, who is just 13 years old, registered his second win against a 2700 Grandmaster. He had beaten England’s David Howell in the same tournament last year. Former world junior champion Abhijeet Gupta played out a draw with former World Championship contender Boris Gelfand of Israel.

Ritu, Navjot make it to repechage round at Worlds 

Ritu Phogat and Navjot Kaur’s hopes of making the medal round at wrestling's World Championships are still alive as both of them progressed to the repechage round here on Tuesday. Ritu lost the quarterfinal 2-6 to Finland’s Petra Maarit Olli. With Petra making the gold medal match, Ritu progressed to the repechage round.  It was, though, curtains for Rajni (72kg) and Kiran (76kg) in the championship.
