Sushil, Yogeshwar’s mentor Yashvir Singh passes away

NEW DELHI: Celebrated wrestling coach Yashvir Singh, who mentored the likes of Olympic medallists Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt, passed away on Thursday at a city hospital after a prolonged kidney ailment.

Celebrated wrestling coach Yashvir Singh, who mentored the likes of Olympic medallists Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt, passed away on Thursday at a city hospital after a prolonged kidney ailment.

Yashvir was 57.

He had a stroke three years back, according to family sources.

Yashvir was a Dronacharya awardee and a national coach also.

Yashvir was associated with freestyle wrestling for over three decades and he was instrumental in guiding Sushil to podium finishes in back-to-back Olympic Games (2008, 2012) as well as the world title in 2010. — PTI
