The Indian cricket team’s administrative manager, Sunil Subramanium, is set to be severely reprimanded by the Indian cricket board (BCCI) for allegedly misbehaving with officials of the country’s High Commissions in the West Indies during the ongoing series.

Subramanium, who got a 45-day extension along with Ravi Shastri-led support staff after their contracts ended last month, is unlikely to be retained in his position after the end of the tour of the West Indies, which ends on September 3. Interviews will be conducted for the new appointments.

“The Indian team was supposed to shoot a small advertisement on water conservation, as this directive came from the government. It was learnt that two High Commissions were informed by BCCI that Subramanium is their point person as he is the administrative manager,” a BCCI official said. “When a very senior person from the Indian High Commission in Trinidad & Tobago called up Subramanium seeking his cooperation, Subramanium replied: ‘Don’t flood me with messages’.”

No cooperation

“The BCCI has come to know that he refused to entertain their (High Commission officials’) calls when all they were doing was to carry out the government’s directive,” the BCCI official added. Subramanium could not be reached for a comment. Subramanium became team’s administrative manager in 2017.

The small video on water conservation, which is to feature skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma, is expected to be shot in Port of Spain on Tuesday. Subramanium is a former left-arm spinner from Tamil Nadu. Incidentally, he had been off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s personal coach during his formative years. — PTI

Dravid has no conflict of interest case: CoA

Mumbai: The Committee of Administrators (CoA) has cleared Rahul Dravid’s (in pic) appointment as head of cricket at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), ruling that there is “no conflict of interest” case against the former India captain. CoA member Lt. Gen. Ravi Thodge said the ball is now in the court of DK Jain, BCCI’s Ombudsman and Ethics Officer. “There is no conflict in Rahul’s case. He has got a notice and we have cleared his appointment. We had seen no conflict, but if the Ombudsman finds any conflict, we will give our response to the Ombudsman stating why we found no conflict,” Thodge said after a CoA meeting here. Dravid, who was in Mumbai prior to today’s CoA meeting, has sent his reply to Jain but it could not be ascertained if he has resigned from his post. Asked about the state cricket bodies which are yet to come on board for BCCI’s elections, Thodge said: “Some of them are yet to register their constitutions. More than 24-25 bodies who have fallen in line. The intentions are to hold the elections around the date which has been set (October 22). Rest of the issues discussed are administrative, related to selection of head coach and selection of other coaches,” he said about today’s CoA meeting.
