While India finished second in the four-team group with six points, it remains to be seen whether this is enough for them to secure a spot in the finals. The top team from each of the 10 groups along with the five best second-place finishers will qualify for the AFC U20 Asian Cup.

Duleep Trophy likely to return to zonal format

The Duleep Trophy is set to return to its traditional zonal format from next year after the state units gave a thumbs down to the four-team concept introduced this season. The red-ball event featured four teams — India A, India B, India C, India D. Usually, six teams from as many zones — central, east, west, north, south and northeast — take part in the tournament, providing more opportunities to the players from their respective zones.

Yuvraj Sandhu finished tied-23rd after a closing round of 3-under at the Yeangder TPC. After his first round of 65, Sandhu was tied second but slipped on the second and third days with 71-74, before finishing with a 69 for a 9-under total. Karandeep Kochhar (67-68-73-73) was unable to keep up the good start and ended T-32. Ajeetesh Sandhu (67-72-69-73) was also T-32 and Shiv Kapur (68-70-72-77) ended T-63.

Shubhankar lands two eagles, moves up to T-44

Shubhankar Sharma compiled an interesting round of 2-under 69, which included two eagles, as he moved up from T-57 to T-44 with one more round to go in the Open de Espana. Sharma also had two birdies and four bogeys in the third round. At even-par for 54 holes, he is T-44.

Australia clinch ODI series with victory over England

Travis Head took 4/28 as Australia strangled England with spin before launching a rapid pursuit of their target with rain in the air to clinch the ODI series 3-2 following a 49-run win via DLS method. Australia were cruising at 165/2 after 20.4 overs in reply to England’s 309 all out when the rain that had been expected all day washed out the prospect of any more play four balls past the threshold for constituting a match.

Tushar breaks 46-second barrier to win gold in 400m

Delhi’s Tushar Kanti Manna and Haryana’s Jyoti bettered meet records on the penultimate day of the U23 Indian Open. Manna posted a meet record time of 45.92 seconds in the men’s 400m. Defending champion Jyoti got a big throw with her fifth attempt (58.49m) to better her own meet record.
